For World Cassowary Day - September 26th 2024

"Happy World Cassowary Day! For those who don't know, the cassowary is a large and colored bird related to the emu, native to New Guinea and found in Australian rainforests.

Its population is about 4,000 in Australia due to habitat loss, car accidents, and dog attacks. Thus, there is an urgent need to draw attention to their role in the local ecosystem and the need to protect them. For example, cassowary spreads seeds of rainforest trees, supporting forest regeneration!"

"Cassowaries are ratites, an ancient group of flightless birds which also includes the emu, ostrich, kiwi and rhea."
