Gemco/Target, Granada Hills
Now demolished Target, former Gemco, at the corner of San Fernando Mission and Balboa in Granada Hills.
The store opened in October 1967 as a Gemco. The LA Times described it as "an air-conditioned, all-electric building on a 10-acre site" and as being 105,000 sqft.
Target took over in the 80s when Gemco closed but the store still had the Gemco look to the exterior. The store closed forever on January 6, 2007. It was quickly demolished and rebuilt from the ground up with a two-level, 143,000 sq ft store with parking on the ground level and the store above it. The only remnant of Gemco that remains is the overhead sign in the parking lot.
