9 Kiba
Racer Biography: 9 Kiba – “The Desert Fox”
The last born in the litter, 9’s parents basically ran out of names.
9 grew up in the sector town of Sandspur Slide located on the arid planet Helvetius where she marveled at the yearly endurance race across the Iron Desert. Determined to throw down in the LSB Racing League, she persisted against prejudice and the fact that being the runt of the litter was not going to hold her back. After saving up enough credits through her long hours at an iron extractor repair yard, 9 was finally able to purchase her Ubiquidyne Industries Type R-7704 mk. 5 “Iridium Thistle”. Although able to buy any number of newer and more powerful speeder bikes, she opted for the older, heavier model favoring the more reliable Desoto capacitors in a doubled pair configuration. She was even able to pay for the undercoating protection with change to spare.
Her initiation into the Fomalhaut Circuit was less than stellar, placing 84th in a field of 96 bikers. Undaunted however, she continued to battle forth throughout the quadrant slowly improving albeit to unnoticeable results. Her best finish in her rookie year being at her home circuit season finale where she placed 34th in the field of 263.
She followed her introductory year with a season off at her own request. In that time, she spent many hours, days, and weeks in the Iron Desert with her thoughts, a full set of wrenches, and her Iridium Thistle. This proved fatal the following year when the new season began.
For her opponents, that is.
After placing 4th in the season opener, she proceeded to make a name for herself by making a mark in every race of the grueling Fomalhaut Circuit. Her first victory came on the desert moon of Trepan where she bested second place by over thirty minutes. Wins and top tens came throughout the season where her fortitude put her in contention for the championship with none other than Ted “The Butcher (Paper)” Andes. In the finale on Helvetius, in front of her hometown and family, 9 Kiba took home the win and the series trophy by soundly defeating second place by a record setting time and an interval of fourteen minutes, thirty-eight seconds, and four hundred and ninety-two micros.
In that endurance race, her clever adaptation and reconfiguration of her Iridium Thistle’s mag-lifts to the magnetic fields created by the iron outcroppings had her bounding across the dangerous wastelands ahead of her well-financed and supremely equipped competitors. Eyewitnesses described her focus and agility like the nimble creature from which she was affectionately nicknamed: The Desert Fox.
And she can’t wait for the next season!
