sinister snapper

---he wasn't actually sinister, but the early evening light combined with the deep shade next to the decking seemed to give this huge snapping turtle a surreal look..

 

We had walked over to the pond with the intention of feeding the turtles, but the 'turtle kibble' dispenser wasn't working. : [ This humongous guy looked like he'd gladly settle for a hand if I couldn't provide a hand-out....

 

I 'm not sure if this is an Alligator Snapper or a Florida snapping Turtle. I think maybe the Florida Snapper, but would appreciate any help.

Florida Snapping turtles can grow up to 19 " (48.2cm) and weigh 35 lbs. (15.8k)., where the Alligator Snapper can be 29" long (73.6cm) and weigh over to 200 lbs. (90.7k)....

(One if the largest freshwater turtles in the world.)
