My Wife on Erringden Road at "Mytholmroyd" with two wheeler Bike depicted in the early 1950's Her holiday visits to Her Cousin and Aunt and Uncle had now changed to the hamlet (tiny village) of "Mountfield" near"Robertsbridge".
= "Roberts Bridge" is located in the County (province) of East Sussex in Southern England.
= At the time my Wife and Her family travelled all the way by British Rail Steam Train from the Railway Station at "Hebden Bridge" here in West Yorkshire via "Leeds" and Kings Cross Railway Station in "London" then the Underground rail system to Charing Cross Railway Station (also in "London") from which they then caught a British Rail Steam Train direct to "Robertsbridge" Railway Station which my Wife recalls as being a very small country Railway Station - BUT a very busy station with Commuters to "London" and "Brighton" via "Lewes". - regretably "Robersbridge" Railway Station closed many years ago !!!
= In the above photograph taken looking East along Erringden Road at " Mytholmroyd" My Wife is seen with two of Her Friends and neighbours at the time.
= Thje large car with the running boards and exterior spare wheel case was a Taxi run by the McDermondy Family who was resident at the house next to the Taxi at the time.
= The other car is thought to have belonged to a Manager for "Martins Bank" (at the time regarded as "The Farmers Bank") who lived for many years near where the smaller car is parked - IT should be well noted that at the time that this photograph was taken only 5 occupants of the houses on Erringden Road had privately owned motor cars !!! !!! !!!
= N ote.>>> Also that there is a distinct lack of telerphone wires as v ery few private households had a private telephone for their own persobal use in their houses.
= NOTE ALSO.>>> the lack of television ariels of any kind !!! !!! !!! as prior to the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth the Second on the Second of June 1953 - when the Queens Husband to be Prince Philip of Greece insisted that the event be televised to the Nation - at the time television sets had very small screens and was very expensive !!!
= However my Wife and a load of other neighbours crammed into the front (sitting room/lounge) of the house where the little boy (Depicted) with the bike lived (a very popular young man at the time no doubt ??? !!!) to watch the Queens Coronation which for the very fgirst time ever for a British Coronation was being screened live form "London".
= The three wheeletr bike in the background is outside that then very popular house and was the boy depicted sisters road machine !!! !!! !!!
= The surface of Erringden Road at the time appears to have a Tarmacadam (Blacktop) surface which was VERY rare for the roads to private houses until many years later !!!
= The house in which my Wife parents lived was purchased by Her Fathers Parents when there was a mass build on that part of " Mytholmroyd" - many people can still remember when the entire area was all Farmland - and next to it - all the way to "Hebden Bridge it still is !!! !!! !!!
