The Naze Tower at Walton-on-the-Naze
September 1993.
This tower above the cliffs on the Naze at Walton-on-the-Naze is often mistakenly called a Martello Tower. There is a Martello Tower at Walton but this is not it. This one was built in 1720 as a navigational mark to aid shipping. Later the Royal Navy used it as a signals station and it was also used by the military during WW2. It is 86ft high
