The Kwai Railway Bridge, Thailand.

This photograph was taken on 27th September 1994 on what was my first visit here. I have been back many times since and for my family and me it is a favourite place.

Of course the bridge looks nothing like the one depicted in the book and the film Bridge Over The River Kwai which was shot in Sri Lanka rather than Thailand and this stretch of water which is actually the Kwai Yai only got its name after the film had made the name famous. The book and film were both historically very inaccurate except for how the prisoners were treated and suffered. A visit to the nearby war grave cemetery will almost certainly bring a tear to your eye.
