180108 at Newport (1)

Monday 19th August 2002 at Newport and a First Great Western service formed by a pair of Class 180 units with 180108 nearest the camera. Units of this class were only then coming into service after a period of trials as they had a number of teething problems. The Class 180 units did not prove popular with the regular First Great Western passengers who were used to the HSTs and their excellent Mk 3 carriages. The Class 180 units have since been moved to other services and the HSTs still reign supreme on the London to South Wales services.
