Shields Ferry The Freda Cunningham.
Tuesday 10th June 1986. Ferry moored at North Shields. I did not know her name until Colin Alexander told me - see his comment below. Having been told her name I did some research.
She was was built at the Ryton Marine shipyard on the River Tyne in the early 1970s and served as a Tyne Ferry from 1972 till 1993 when she was sold. I do not know where she went then but now she is working in the Republic of Ireland. Renamed Mystic Waters she has since 2006 operated during the summer months, connecting Sherkin Island with a small fishing port called Baltimore in County Cork on the Irish mainland. Her current owners say she'll need some work to the hull but plan to get that done and also say they have no plans to scrap or replace her. She has now been working for 44 years (as at December 2016).
