“Western” Class (Class 52) D1007 ‘Western Talisman’ at Paddington

D1007 at Paddington during the 1960s. The Western Region of British Railways like the Great Western Railway before it liked to do things its own way. While elsewhere diesel electric locomotives were being delivered the Western Region built up a fleet of Diesel Hydraulic Locomotives. The Western Class were the most powerful of these and for a while were the dominant power for the main express services out of Paddington.

Note the complicated point work. There is nothing like that at Paddington now.
