Narrow Boat at Godnow Bridge

Monday 13th May 1996 and a narrow boat passes at Godnow Bridge. The boat will have been moored before the swing bridge while one of its crew opened the electrically powered bridge. After the boat has passed the boat will be moored again while a member of its crew closes the bridge.

From this shot it can be seen how close the bridge and canal are to the railway The signal box/crossing box from where the signalman opened and closed the level crossing can be seen in the background on the remains of a platform from the long closed Godnow Bridge Station. Because its foundations had moved the signal box and the adjacent brick building were soon to be demolished and replaced by a modern structure. The signalman still opens and closes the level crossing gates by the push and pull method.
