Godnow Bridge Swing Bridge
Monday 13th May 1996 at Godnow Bridge where railway, canal and road meet up. You can just see the narrow boat which has recently passed the bridge. It is moored while one of its crew closes the electrically powered bridge.
The signal box/crossing box from where the signalman opens and closes the level crossing can be seen in the background on the remains of a platform from the long closed Godnow Bridge Station. Because its foundations had moved the signal box and the adjacent brick building were soon to be demolished and replaced by a modern structure. The signalman still opens and closes the level crossing gates by the push and pull method.
