Vogue 8890 -05 back welt pocket, slash line chalk marked
Chalk marking slash line on back welt pocket. This pattern calls for a single welt pocket. I didn't push my luck by trying to do two welt pockets, one on each hip. I am sure I couldn't get them to line up.
Couple of notes:
1) I did not follow the pattern instructions for doing the welt. I think they lead to an imprecise welt.
2) Instead I referred back to my old Singer Tailoring book and used a mashup of how to do a double welt plus some finagling around sewing the pocket bag on.
3) First steaming the welt to make sure that the stretch was out and the welt would lie flat.
4) Stitching on the stitching line of the welt itself, then trimming to a scant 1/4 inch.
5) Pin/baste the welt (folded side down toward the bottom of the pants) to the pocket stitching line - matching the stitching line on the welt to it.
4) using the stitching on the welt as my guide, stitched the welt to the welt seam line on the pants piece.
5) Placed the pocket bag over the stitched-on welt and carefully matched the stitching line on the pocket bag to the stitching line on the welt.
6) Stitch, slash, etc. and turn..
