Second version... denim from Sawyer Brooks for shorts; shell is made up from left over fabric from the last men's shirt I made Better Half (from Fabric.com). Shell is traced from a favorite ready to wear -- version 2 with a new drafting of the sleeve. Shorts are from out of print Simplicity 6946, with different band treatment (outside /inside button) and slash pockets added. ( I traced the pockets from an old pair of RTW tennis shorts I had). On this version, I made muslin bias tape for hem and fly and kept the shorts a little longer, more like a very short skirt.
