For Design Week Portland I chose to check out the Home Brewed by Design event. It was a collaboration of independent graphic designers paired with up and coming brewers to create fun and dynamic labels. I was impressed by the wide variety of conceptual ideas the designers came up with. They took great care in matching the style of the design to the taste and type of beer. My personal favorite design was for Simple People Porter. It had a lot of personality but remained minimal, geometric and embodied a good visual for the taste of the beer. I enjoyed chatting with a few of the designers, they were very humble and laid back. I also met someone from W + K who knew Frazier Goodbody (digital retoucher) who took me on a tour of the head quarters and introduced me to some of the art directors earlier this year. Overall, I had a great experience and hope to attend more of the events and workshops next year.
