RIGHT TO FOOD: All people have the right nutritious food. This includes right to improve methods of production, conservation, and distribution of food. Also included is the right to developing or reforming agrarian systems in such a way as to achieve the most efficient development and utilization of natural resources.

Even before Surin was declared the organic province of Thailand, the farmers have been developing alternative agriculture methods. Switching to organic methods, they improve the conditions of the land, their health, and decreasing the farmers’ debt caused by high chemical fertilizer prices. They protest Free Trade Agreements that will make the farmers more dependent on international markets. They also fight to protect indigenousness seed for Thai farmers who have grown Jasmine rice for generations.
