Elko, NV - vintage postcard of the Stockmen's Hotel - 1950's
While technically not on U.S. 40 (even though the reverse side of the card states so), the iconic Stockmen's Hotel is only a couple blocks south of the highway (Idaho Street) on Commercial Street. For all intensive purposes, one can say that it's behind the Commercial Hotel, and back-in-the-day the railroad tracks of the Southern Pacific and Western Pacific railroads separated the two. The railroad tracks were relocated in the 1980's, leaving a large open space now occupied by parking lots. The Stockmen's remains in business (as of 2024) and is part of the "Ramada by Wyndham" chain.
