Auburn, CA - vintage postcard - circa late 1950's

In the foreground is the freeway bypass of Auburn which opened in 1947 - note the sign with the U.S. 40 shield on it. In 1960 the freeway section became I-80. The old U.S.40 alignment through town was the street (Lincoln Way) seen passing in-front of the old fire house on the right, then up the hill and past the other side of the old courthouse ween at the upper left of the photo. The Shell station seen at the center of the photo still stands but is now a Valero (2022).
