VIntage Sparks, NV postcard - views of U.S. 40 - early 1960's

So unrecognizable today.....

Top photo: looking east on U.S. 40 (today Victorian Ave, formerly B Street) at the corner of 12th Street (where the traffic lights are). On the left side of the photo, the building past the red "Drugs" sign is the old Trader Dick's restaurant; that building previously housed the original Nugget casino, which in 1958 moved into a new building across the street (not visible in the picture).

Bottom photo: looking west on U.S. 40 from approximately the present-day corner of Victorian Ave and Pyramid Way. The Hotel Abbay building seen on the right side of the photo still stands today (it's directly across the street from Lillard Park and the restored train station) and houses an Italian restaurant. The building immediately to the right of it (Hales's No. 5 Drugs) today has the immense "Last Chance Joe" statue displayed out front (this was previously outside the Nugget for many years).
