Amarillo Municipal Airport (AMA) layout - 1967 USGS map

A major redevelopment of the airport resulted in a new runway (4/22 - built to accommodate a fleet of B-52's of the Strategic Air Command (SAC) based at the adjacent Amarillo Air Force Base) severing both Highway US 66 and the Chicago Rock Island & Pacific Railroad. The highway has now been realigned to the north of the airport property, overlapping existing Highway US 60. The railroad has been realigned to run below the bottom of the new runway.
