Ruby-throated Hummingbird immature male 9-3-2012 Lincoln Co. KY.
On late September 3, this immature male showed up at our feeders and stayed briefly thru the afternoon. I found this immature very interesting for at least two reasons...(1) a nearly complete gorget with black chin! ...and (2) the ORANGE not ruby-red color of those gorget feathers. I believe the white at the base of the bill to be pollen deposits. This photo was cropped to show "black chin" feathers.
