Common Loon by Jackie B. Elmore 1-28-2019 Okaloosa Co. Florida
Notice two things in this image, first, this loon is flightless. The Common Loon is flightless for a few weeks after molting all of its wing feathers at the same time in midwinter - (Cornell Lab of Ornithology). This is the first time I’ve observed and photographed this. And second, upon closer view this loon has a hook and a piece of monofilament fishing line attached to its neck. How sad!
