January 2013 Misc

So far it's been a busy start of the new year. First hikes of the year, full moon, ALA, bees, dogs and chili peppers.

ALA was, as usual, very fun: this is turning into the small-but-cool anime con. Man, there were a LOT of cosplayers, including a high percentage of quality costumes. My favorites: Mary Poppins (practically perfect in every way...), a great Jack Frost and an Ichigo with great armor.

This year promises to be a hike-heavy one. I'm back into walking and enjoying the area now that the temps are nice and cool. We thought we finally found human remains-- a skull! But it was a bitter disappointment.

I also finally got the courage to pop open the lid of the abandoned bee hive in the wash: it was cold and the bees were not active, so it wasn't -too- much of a dare. Interesting hive: we are fairly certain at this point that it is abandoned. Tempted to take it home, but you'd be surprised at how heavy a beehive full of honey can be. Getting this across a 50 or 60 yards of sandy, rocky riverbed just doesn't sound practical.

Amazingly, my red habanero chili plant is going nuts with peppers! I have no idea why- but suddenly it became beautiful with shiney, red chilis.
