Hotel View
The view from the Mercure Garmisch Hotel: if you are travelling on a budget and want a hotel-hotel (as opposed to a hostel-hotel), I highly recommend the Mercure chain: they're owned by Accor company, who also owns Motel 6 in the US. They are a bit sparten, but all the ones we've tried (two, actually) have had clean, if spartan, rooms with nice beds, good bathrooms, power outlets, and tv's. They're only downside is that they charge for internet: that's a pretty big negative (about 9 euros for a one day/24 hour access). They also have a huge buffet breakfast, but at 16-18 euros you can probably find as-good for less (though reports of the buffet say that they're worth the money).
