Helena, Montana

One of the Helena roundhouse guys has come out to unlock the switch and derail for two inbound crews who are going for the quit on a warm July evening in Montana's capital city. The 840 job, otherwise known as the Helena local is the first to arrive back from pulling and spotting the lime plant out in Townsend. They are shoving their power in toward the roundhouse tracks for servicing as an extra job, which has just done a Bozeman turn finishes yarding their train.

Up until a few days ago when the truss bridge between Reed Point and Columbus reopened, Helena was running Bozeman turns almost every day to ensure that all their customers received their cars. Despite the service disruption the bridge collapse caused, the MRL did everything they could to keep commitments, despite being in the twilight of their existence. The level of company pride and character this railroad exhibited throughout its history is unmatched by anything else in the modern era and it will be missed by many.
