The Last, Best Place

The MRL's Helena Switch crew, which usually goes on duty at 0600 each day, handles work in the small community of Townsend, Montana, which is home to two customers which generate daily traffic for the railroad. After working the lime plant just north of this location, the Helena Switch crew brings their train under a classic Northern Pacific cantilever and into the siding at Townsend pick up some loaded centerbeams and set out their empties. There sure aren't many places out there anymore where you can shoot a GP9 leading a train on the mainline with classic signals.
