I'd like to start off by wishing all of my Flickr friends a very happy Thanksgiving. This Thanksgiving, I'm thankful for the many successfully outings I have had throughout the year and the many good experiences I had with friends out railfanning. This particular image is a memorable one for me, I remember needing to get away for a little while and deciding to go after the Wheeling's 661 job from Medina to Copley, which had the Wisconsin Central painted 6316 as the eastbound leader. I headed down to Copley to intercept the train and I got to Grave's Lumber just before it did. Unfortunately for me, the westbound leader was one of the former BNSF SD40-2's, so naturally I was annoyed and left after wasting a good deal of time trying to get a drone shot of the train working in Copley.
I drove a little further down to Brewster on a whim, just to see if anything was happening there. I had been conversing through text messages with Matt Arnold, and he let me know that train 301 was sitting just east of the yard waiting to get in with BNSF 1020 on the point, still in H1 paint. I headed over to where he said the train was sitting and rolled up on this beautiful scene at Lawndell Road, just east of Brewster. Almost immediately after pulling up, Matt and I heard the dispatcher give the train permission into the yard.
Beautiful evening light basks the scene as the BNSF 1020 notches up and pulls west toward the yard at Brewster, Ohio, passing the picturesque farmland along Lawndell Road. A few minutes later, the sun had dipped below the horizon and the beautiful light was gone.
Experiences like this are what draw me back to this railroad time and time again. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I wish you all a happy Thanksgiving.
