Registan - a decorative column

Details of a 17th century decorative column in the Tilla Kari madrassa. The column serves no practical purpose, and is reminiscent of columns used in ancient Greece. The ancient site of Samarkand was occupied by Alexander the Great almost 2500 years ago - the furthest eastern city in the ancient Greek empire.
