Registan - the Lions madrassa
The ornamental arch leading to the Sher Dor (Lions) madrassa in the Registan is decorated with designs of two lions. Two gigantic ornamental towers and two blue domes tower over the inner courtyard. this was the second madrassa to be built in the Registan, and it was completed in the 17th century. The design of the lions is contradictory to traditional Islamic code, which forbids decorations that include human or animal forms.
