Alien! Friend or foe
An unexpected moment when rinsing off a penta I’d brought in from the garden. This alien looking creature didn’t appear to be startled but I sure was when I turned the stem over. I got excited because part of my pollinator project included host plants for swallowtail butterflies and this looked like one of the species. On closer examination and some google sluthing things didn’t add up so I reached out to my butterfly and YouTube friend from Butterfly Gardening Inspirations for id. Susan is such a wizard at all things butterflies and she said it was a Tersa Sphinx Moth caterpillar it’s one of those creatures that is either friend or foe because it’s like the horned tomato worm that gardeners dislike. Well I like this one because it is a night pollinator and has an important job in my garden and this little cutie gets to stay.

Happy Monday! In case you are in a good location for viewing today’s total eclipse please please be safe and enjoy!
