The Tree
Live oak trees can live for centuries and are known as a symbol of the old South. While on the road to see over wintering whooping cranes this single live oak caught my attention because of it's solitary presence and expansive horizontal growth. Oaks in pastures are like pieces of art work in my opinion they are graceful and beautiful and provide shelter and shade from oppressive heat and storms for man and beast alike. It took several trips to this location to capture the harshness of the environment it endures daily. The orange trees in the background show perspective of the massive size. There's no water source other than the sky and yet it stands tall with roots going deep into the ground standing singularly a mighty oak that most likely will be standing long after we are gone.
