Notch and her accomplice true forest bandits
Well we're all captive for the time being so here's a follow up on the saga of "Notch". I was sitting down to eat lunch when here comes these two forest bandits towards the table it had been several weeks since seeing her routing through the trash bin. Today she was accompanied by one of her kits both were looking healthy which made me happy. I set my sandwich down and picked up the camera moving into position to get a look at the kit. No sooner than I left the shelter they split going in two directions the kit continued walking to my right while Notch peeled off towards the table. The next few minutes were comical as she was focused on my lunch, I was attempting to focus on the little one. I'd go shoo her away while keeping track of the little one because baby critters are so darn cute and I had to get a photo. Each time I moved from the table she moved in. I was beginning to think the kit was an accomplice distraction while mom grabbed food. Eventually I won both fronts when I grabbed the sandwich and turned just in time to catch a couple frames of the accomplice before they both slipped into tall grass.
Now that access to the reserve is closed I wonder how well they will do with no human goodies to eat time will tell and I hope to cross paths with them in the future.
Oh, I call her Notch because there are two notches missing from her right ear which distinguishes her from the many little masked relatives roaming the preserve.
