Dark Eyed Burrowing Owl (Explore)
This adult burrowing owl is special in so many different ways. 1. Dark speckled eyes. 2. It's banded. 3. A radio transmitter is attached (see the multiple wires on the back). Normally transmitters look like a single strand but this owl has been unravelling it in an attempt to remove it. If you take a close look the dark eyes are speckled and very intense looking. I've seen other dark eyed owls but this one has an eerie look about it and was difficult to look at for extended lengths of time.
