we think the same things at the same time, there's just so many of us so you can't count..
i've been thinking about collective thoughts all day on day two hundred and seventy one. the topic of perfection came up today as i read the 'single dad laughing blog' about the disease of perfection, but this is something i've been thinking about the last few weeks. i had found something i had printed about five years ago, i found it on this guy's myspace.. but these words had always stuck with me. it's about the endless pursuit of happiness through material things. the "if only i had the latest prada bag, THEN i'd be happy." or the "once i get my dream home, i'll FINALLY be happy." only to be met with that same empty space that we were trying to fill in the first place...
here are the words that stuck with me..
true happiness-
"so many of us walk through this life erroneously searching for something that is an illusion. searching for pleasure, more possesions, a man or a woman, a better job, a better dog, a better high, something more, always something more than we have at the moment. we mistakenly believe that when we attain whatever it is we're searching for we will finally be content and happy. we become self indulgent and greedy and driven and hungry for that greener grass on the other side of the hill. then that funny thing happens, we reach that place we've been striving so hard to get to; yet we find we're still not happy, we want more. we get exactly what we want but discover it wasn't the key, so we search for something more, more, more, and think maybe just over that next hill.
and so it goes, a vicious cycle of discontent and countless grains of sand which are forever lost. we restlessly walk toward our own ambition dragging around heavy chains of introversion and shamelessly missing out on so much beauty and laughter along the way. just over that hill, then i'll be happy. as soon as i get that car, then i'll be happy. as soon as i find my soul mate, then i'll be happy. years or a life may pass before we tragically realize that we've missed the point and we'll never be happy with such misguiding. happiness was there all along; we just missed it.
have you ever known someone who just has a glow about them? someone who always has a sparkle in their eye and a smile from ear to ear, who is never hesitant with a compliment to brighten the life of whoever may be around them at that moment? have you ever wondered how they do it, what they have that you don't? the truth is they may or may not have materials, they may or may nor have the job of their dreams, they may or may not even have someone who loves them to go home to every night; yet they're always happy, not dependant on any other circumstances, they are happy simply because they choose to be, because they are content with what they have and are content with simply living, simply breathing and laughing and crying and thinking and feeling. they realize that it is all within their own heart and mind, whether they choose to be happy or sad, to smile or to frown.
*i added this part* but most importantly they love themselves. they forgive themselves. we're human, we all make mistakes along the way."
