John Ellis says: I wrote: "To frame or not to frame? I think it works. Why? Because of the overall placing of other elements along the wall and because the framing acts as a humorous set of inverted commas. The distance is beautifully rendered given the context."

John Ellis says: I wrote: " Certainly a good juxtaposition - what do the young care about the end of the world? The end of the year is aeons away! Of course, with a certain President around (maybe two) this 'prophet' might not be too far off the mark. Very good timing with the front row, even if (very) slightly more awkward further back (like the English rugby team?!!)."

John Ellis says: I wrote (in two parts): "Great use of flash in this lovely scene.... Coming back to this 6 days later, the general layout and use of the one point of colour against the monochromatic lowering clouds over the mountains still impresses."

John Ellis says: I wrote: "A very Joana shot - a great feel for shapes and light and shade. I love the build up in visual power of the two shapes on the right, and the hint of yellow bottom left."

John Ellis says: I wrote: "Another slow burner. In the end, it is an urban landscape beginning with rubbish, going via Adrian's reading* and ending up with those buildings at the top." * "A compelling visual metaphor of how women are sometimes sexually objectified and discarded, while society rolls on, disinterested."

John Ellis says: I wrote: "I think he is on a Beatles' trip! Certainly very well seen with those lights, and good camera control to get the exposure right."

John Ellis says: I wrote: "I think that one advantage of not seeing their faces is that there is a greater sense of potential menace. However, her expression can be easily read either way as Chris says, so being left not sure is perhaps not the best end result. That said, the monochrome and anonymous passageway is a good background and the grouping is appropriately dynamic to treat it as a more abstract composition. And girls can be cruel."

John Ellis says: I wrote: "It's interesting - initially I thought that this is an SP trope but I think that its minimalism works through in the end to make it an interesting study in controlling the content of a shot and making blank space work as in a painting. It bears staring at and studying."

John Ellis says: I wrote: "The significance of the barrier and the segregation is very telling. His gesture, rather unfortunately in that context, tends to underline the point."
