John Ellis says: I have no idea of the provenance of the black figures but the key to the shot is the way the foreground figure seems to push the London backdrop, and the mundane figure speaking to the microphone, out of their world and thereby create an ambiguity in the scene.

John Ellis says: I wrote: " Probably the most clever thing about this is the use of the balloons to rein in the emptiness of the sky, which is great because everything else works perfectly. My favourite bit is the man about to do a reverse flip into the river on the left!"

John Ellis says: The framed area chosen might not have yielded much if it were not for the arresting stance of the woman in the centre looking in the direction of the camera. She transforms the shot and makes one study the totality of the scene.

John Ellis says: I wrote: " Normally I am not too keen on the photographer's reflection but here it does seem to add a knowing wink to the scene. In addition, studying the people of different backgrounds and ages makes for an interesting study in multiculturalism.

John Ellis says: I like the blue theme with the brown of the passer-by to offset it. The moment of the three climbing to the upper window is well caught and the shot has coherence. I am not disturbed by the dark of the face on the left as the scene is not about him, but about the distribution of action and colour.

John Ellis says: There is a certain sense of 'big brother' with the face on the television screen intruding into this electronics workshop; just as the photographer enters the scene from the front and his presence is acknowledged by the two men.
