John Ellis says: Lili's b/w is in fierce competition with the colour version and both have their merits. I have tended more towards this version over the last week because the form is so strong here with the chimney, its shadow, the woman and the tunnel end with the figure and car there. It all comes together so well with the arched roof becoming the sky. Here we have narrative and aesthetics working well together.

John Ellis says: This takes us into mythology and the strange goings-on in the ancient land of England. The picture remains distinct in every part allowing us to see a coherent landscape with the warmly dressed man and a lovely combination of monochrome and orange, repeated in the sky.

John Ellis says: This would have been difficult to repeat in-camera but the reward for the viewer is a clever play with colours both on the woman and in the sky behind. Psychedelic even, and I was reminded of the Beatles' 'Lucy in the sky with diamonds'.

John Ellis says: There was a long debate about the ethics of this in relation to double exposure. But when one takes a longer view, any debate is irrelevant in the face of the creativity of getting a small elephant to emerge, mammoth-like, from its slumber within the stone in order to follow the little girl.

John Ellis says: One of the most inventive shots, this apocalyptic scene is very well constructed with the figure of Christ on the rooftop as the proverbial icing on the cake.

John Ellis says: I wrote: "Clever use of the layers to let colours and different shapes show up almost normally. I like this bit of magical realism."
