John Ellis says: Not everyone travels by expensive brands or London cabs. It is interesting how the visual aesthetic is more easily achieved with something that is older and simpler and relies on shapes that are closer to other structures. Of course the hand is very good, as are the cigarette ends on the ground indicating time spent waiting, but the picture is made by the one fifth sliver of maroon on the right.

John Ellis says: Look at it long enough and one feels as though one is speeding along this dreary stretch of straight road in the rain. It is almost the antithesis of Marcelo's shot. The way the driver's face is caught helps humanize the shot, along with the hanging 'good luck charm'.

John Ellis says: Just to remind us that the police like their cars! I like the ambiguous possibilities of who is helping whom,but it does look as though the cop is barely restraining his impatience with this woman pointing in a direction that doesn't make much sense.
