John Ellis says: This reminded me of cave painting and made me think of drilling back through time and history. The b/w also allows the odd subject matter such manhole covers and paving to become part of that archaeology.

John Ellis says: Not just a leg but one can easily identify the legs as a major part of the composition. The added attraction here is the ambiguity of the figures - alive or dummies?

John Ellis says: To get three unrelated people to fill the frame and yet be in no doubt that the legs are the main objective of taking the photo is a very good achievement. The oddity of the thrown--back head gives a nice twist (excuse pun) to the shot. In some ways this came near to being the closest to meeting the instruction for me.

John Ellis says: This has very strong subject matter and the woman's bare legs provide a fascinating counterpoint to the child crying. The way light and shadow pan out is perfect.

John Ellis says: Thinking outside the box is always a good exercise. Here the telling substitution of wheels for legs is forcefully caught in a great exercise in motion blur.

John Ellis says: This one grew on me too. At first I was a bit concerned about Jan's shadow bottom left but a certain sense of the paparazzi fits with her strange outfit, which feels as if it is aping an American style from head to toe. Needless to say it attracted plenty of comments along the lines of a comfortable place to stay!

John Ellis says: Unusual and well executed. The narrative is uncertain and the clutching gesture on the hand is fascinating. The way his jeans appear in the light is visually very interesting and the chiaroscuro works well.

John Ellis says: I wasn't sure about including this for a while - a photo's ability to go where pop art goes is tricky, especially if, like for me, pop art does not satisfy fully. But the unusual uniform base colour of yellow and the green corner intruding at the top ultimately form a strong background to the leg/shoe actions, including the pink pair of shoes.

John Ellis says: Creative thinking, well composed and deeply humorous. Tony Ray Jones would have been proud of this as a study of the English!

John Ellis says: This is a shot that in other hands might just have been a study of the interior of an Indian shop or workplace - a good one mind you. But the complicit exchange of looks combined with the illusion takes it somewhere else.

John Ellis says: A really wonderful study of a family on a seemingly deserted but beautiful beach. The highlight for me are the trousers for their cultural observation.

John Ellis says: Purists might have wondered whether this was sufficiently 'leggy'. But what is dancing if not about legs? Very beautifully caught and represented.

John Ellis says: This is a wonderfully off-beat composition with all the lines and poses working off each other so well. There is a perfect balance across the shot despite the figures being cut off above the waist.

John Ellis says: Very cleverly seen, taken and presented. It could be out of a fairy-tale.

John Ellis says: I chose this for the wonderful way the humour comes to one in stages as the eye works down from the legs. A very complete picture with the whole frame dedicated to the same subject matter.

John Ellis says: Very classic SP - even if one was looking at this without knowing what the instruction was, it would still be an excellent shot.
