Vagrant Inca
Uncommon in Hawaii, this vagrant Inca tern (Larosterna inca) has been spotted at South Point and, in this photograph, on the Kaiwi coast. This non-migratory subadult (1st or 2nd year) developing its unique facial plumage is believed to have arrived from its native Peru or Chile with a passing storm from the east Pacific.
