Lava flow 61g boils the ocean at Kamokuna, Hawaii producing a thick, glowing plume of steam and gases and explosively ejecting spatter in the waning twilight. The advancing new shoreline is often poorly consolidated and sloughs off, acres at a time, creating temporary coastal escarpment and black sand beaches.
