The Susquehanna took over the former DL&W lines north of Binghamton after the formation of Conrail. Also, they obtained trackage rights on Conrail between Binghamton, NY and the New York City Metropolitan Area. To provide this new service the railroad obtained some additional locomotives, among them five Alco C430s.
