Hawaii! 160

Kapu, or sacred laws, were of utmost importance to Hawaiian culture and the breaking of kapu was punishable by stoning, strangulation or spearing. However, certain areas were designated as places of refuge and no blood could be shed in its confines. So, if you manage to escape from the spearing or stoning and make it to the place of refuge you were safe.

You can also hide here from a war enemy and you were protected and given a second chance.
