An unusual tombstone at Oak Grove Cemetery in La Crosse, Wisconsin, due to the fact that the cause of death for the deceased is inscribed on the stone. Martin was an 18-year-old deckhand aboard the rafting steamboat Bella Mac whose boiler exploded on April 7, 1882, seven miles south of La Crosse on the Mississippi River . . . claiming the life of Martin and eight others according to old La Crosse newspaper reports.
