The Anole lizard (Anolis carolinensis) is a species of lizard that has a characteristic bright green coloration and is therefore also referred to as the green anole lizard. This species is also sometimes known as the American chameleon. Green anoles are territorial animals. During fights for dominance, males inflate their throat, erect a crest on their backs, expose the red dewlap under its neck and position themselves sideways to appear larger. Green anoles also perform pushups and bob their heads to intimidate competitors. They are very aggressive and ready to attack even their own reflection in the mirror. Like many other species of lizards, green anoles can detach their tail from the rest of the body to escape from the hands or the mouth of the predator. Main predators of green anoles are birds of prey, cats, and snakes.
