The emotional scenes saw the young elephant stuck, coated up to its neck in mud, while the mother used her trunk to try and pull it to safety. Photographer Katharina Hilgers watched on as the scene unfolded at Addo Elephant Nation Park in Eastern Cape, South Africa, last month. The struggle between the mother and her baby went on for some time, leaving Katharina frustrated, as no progress was being made. - SEE CATERS COPY
