NYC Subway Rider
77 Street - Lenox Hill Hospital Station, View of Pedestrians Crossing Lexington Avenue, as seen from Downtown Stairs Entrance 2014.10.30
The early morning walking dead, on their way to work. But seriously, with the eventual opening of the Second Avenue Subway line, pressure on the IRT #6 is expected to dissipate. Right now, it is one of the most overcrowded morning subway rides in the city. It seems that everyone from the east side of Manhattan, from Lexington Avenue to the East River, must take that line to go to work. If one waits at a traffic light on the west side of the avenue, at the turn of a green walk light, a platoon of barely awake, aggravated, coffee deprived, "walking dead," will burst forth to cross over the avenue in order to get to the downtown side. The low sun at their back is predictable and perfect for that repeating morning drama. Later in the day, the uptown side (the stairs barely seen in background left) discharges huge crowds of exhausted workers on their way home.
