92203 BSC Shotton 11.10.1997

Commemorating 30 years since steam finished on Iron Ore workings BR Standard Class 9F paid a short visit to the BSC Shotton Steel works in Flintshire for a private photographic charter organised by Freight Train Productions, the then owner David Shepherd can be just seen in the cab window.

Unfortunately the day did not go quite to plan as the engine spent more time off the track than on it. A hurried plan was put into action and a number of jacks arrived with kind permission from the Llangollen railway with a few members from the loco department. This took quite a while to complete and shortened the photographic opportunities quite considerably.

Before the unfortunate incident the engine, complete with 8H shed code, did manage a few runs with steel coils in tow, just out of sight at the back was one of the on site diesel engines to provide braking, despite all of this it was good to see such an impressive sight of a 9F on a very heavy train.
