116. petals on the Gazania (re-do)

For my "One of a kind" flower images project. I took this pic after heavy rain came thru Portland. The petals have Geometric shapes, with waterdrops nestling in each petal. I love the result. I got my Gazania 2 years ago. It amazes me how beautiful the flowers are when they open up each day.

Gazania flowers are light-sensitive. They close up at night and on particularly cloudy days. It is a behavior called nyctinasty. Although the reason for this behavior isn't fully understood, some scientists believe that this behavior prevents pollen from becoming wet and heavy with dew.
