Tammar wallaby (Macropus eugenii)

One of the smallest wallaby species in the genus Macropus, the tammar wallaby is a common sight on Kangaroo Island, especially the western half. It is very gregarious and mostly nocturnal, spending most of the day hidden in scrubs and bushes, but it can be seen foraging in the open by the end of the afternoon.

Watching these absurdly cute animals hopping everywhere like mechanical toys was a constant source of joy while I visited the island !
